PRESIDENT RECEIVES EP VICE PRESIDENT

 President Serzh Sargsyan today received the Vice President of the European Parliament and member of the EURONEST PA Bureau, Richard Czarnecki.

Serzh Sargsyan welcomed the guest and attached great importance to such meetings which, according to the President, provide a good opportunity to discuss the prospects of developing Armenia-EU relations with Armenia’s European friends.

The Armenian President and Richard Czarnecki who is of Polish origin warmly recalled their previous meetings and the reciprocal visits of the Armenian and Polish Presidents, expressing satisfaction with the fact that the interstate relationship between Armenia and Poland has been advancing continuously. President Serzh Sargsyan underscored that in the person of Poland, Armenia has a reliable partner in the international arena with which our friendly relations have been based on historical connections and common approaches towards various issues. Richard Czarnecki noted that his country perfectly understands and thoroughly comprehends the geopolitical situation in which Armenia has found itself.

At the meeting, the interlocutors attached great importance to promoting inter-parliamentary cooperation with the EU which takes place within the framework of both the RA-EU Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee and the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly. Serzh Sargsyan and Richard Czarnecki discussed the opportunities of encouraging effective collaboration.
President Serzh Sargsyan introduced Czarnecki with the peace process of the NKR conflict, the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries and Armenia aimed at peaceful resolution of the conflict, as well as the present issues. The Armenian President touched upon the significance of commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in 2015, placing great value on the role of parliamentarians in recognition and condemnation of the genocide and hence, in preventing the repetition of other genocides in the future.
