PRESIDENT SARGSYAN RECEIVED THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE CSTO NIKOLAY BORDYUZHA

The President of Armenia, Chairman of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Serzh Sargsyan received today the Secretary General of the CSTO Nikolay Bordyuzha, who has arrived to Armenia to participate at the meeting of the Heads of the CSTO Internal Affairs Ministries (Police) and to observe Cobalt-2016 tactical and specialized military exercises conducted in Armenia on May 24-26.

The President of Armenia stressed the importance of the mentioned above events and expressed hope that the agenda of the meeting includes the development of the mechanisms aimed at the creation of effective mechanisms to solve current issues. He said that a successful resolution of the tactical and operational issues in the framework of the Cobalt-2016 military exercises will allow to register progress in the fight against international terrorism and extremism and will allow to improve coordination of the efforts of the CSTO member states, to strengthen potential of the anti-terrorist activities of the CSTO Rapid Response forces.

Serzh Sargsyan underscored the necessity of creating a legal and practical base to develop coordinated actions to thwart these threats. With this regard the President of Armenia expressed confidence that compound of the organizational and practical steps to be developed in the course of Cobalt-2016 military exercises as well as in the framework of the operative and preventive measures will increase the efficiency of the joint operational, intelligence, and preventive operations conducted in the CSTO area of responsibility and aimed at fighting international terrorism and transnational organized crime.

Nikolay Bordyuzha reported to President Serzh Sargsyan on the events conducted in Yerevan and stressed that representatives of all participating states valued them highly, while the military exercised were assesses as one of the best of ever conducted exercises.

The parties spoke also about the issues related to regional security, priorities of the Armenian presidency at the CSTO as well as issues related to CSTO’s cooperation with other international organizations.
