RPA IN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY IN 1999

The elections of the third convocation of NA, in accordance with the RA Electoral Code, took place on May 30, 1999. The RPA participated in the elections jointly with the People's Party of Armenia, in the "Unity" Alliance.

As a result of elections the "Unity" Alliance obtained 41.6% of seats and formed a faction with the same title. Out of 61 deputies in the faction 27 were from the RPA.

Unity" Alliance which represented the majority in the NA contributed greatly to lawmaking as well as to inter-parliamentary ties.

During 4 years of NA activity for different reasons (obtaining a post incompatible with a deputy status, establishment of another party or joining another party, due to decease) the composition of the "Unity" faction has changed, hence, the number of RPA members therein. As of early 2003, the RPA was represented by 30 deputies in NA , of which 22 in the "Unity" faction and 8 in other factions. The activity of Republicans in the NA is rather organized and fully expresses the political stance of the RPA.

At the extraordinary NA session convened on November 2, 1999, the election of the new NA leadership took place. Tigran Torosyan, RPA Board member, was elected to be the NA Deputy Chairman.

On November 10, 1999, the RPA member Victor Dallakyan was elected to be the chairman of the permanent commission for state/law issues.

On February 19, 2001, the RPA member Gagik Minasyan was elected to be chairman of the permanent commission for monetary, budget and economic issues.
