Born April 14, 1956, in Yerevan
In 1978, graduated from Yerevan Polytechnic Institute, majored in electronics, D.Sc.
In 1978 started working at Yerevan Computer Research Institute; in 1988-1995, chief of subdivision, senior specialist.
In 1996-1998, he was a member of the RA Central Electoral Commission, in 1997-1998, chief editor of the "Hanrapetakan" newspaper.
On May 30, 1999, he was elected to the RA NA from the proportional party ticket of "Unity" Alliance, a member of standing commission for monetary, budget and economic affairs.
On November 2, 1999, he was elected to be Deputy Speaker of the NA. A member of the "Unity" faction, deputy chairman of the RPA Board.
On May 25, 2003, he was elected to the RA NA from the proportional party ticket of the RPA. On 12 June he was elected to be Deputy Speaker of the NA, in september - the chairman of ad-hoc committee on matters of integration in European structures.
In 2003-2006 he was deputy chairman of NA.
On June 1, 2006 he was elected chairman of NA.
In 2005 he was granted with the medal of Ministry of the Defence of RA “Garegin Nzhdeh”.
Since 27 July 1993 has been a member of Republican Party of Armenia.
In 1994, on 2 December 1995 (2-nd congress of RPA), on 20 December 1997(4-th congress of RPA), on 30 January 1999(5-th congress of RPA) was elected a member of RPA.
On 9 June 2001(6-th congress of RPA ), on 12 July 2003 (8-th congress of RPA ), on 17 December 2005 (9-th congress of RPA) was elected a member of RPA, a deputy of the chairman of RPA.
Married, has one child.
