Armenian MP says PM Pashinyan has isolated the Armenian Diaspora and the diaspora structures

01.04.2022

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: The Armenian Report caught up with Member of Parliament (MP) Anna Mkrtchyan from “I Have Honor" faction in the hallways of the Armenian National Assembly today. We asked the MP about Armenia offering Azerbaijan to immediately negotiate a peace agreement. Does she think Azerbaijan is ready for peace? Azerbaijan is not ready for peace, there is no peace agenda, they do not even hide it with their actions, Mkrtchyan told The Armenian Report. "It (peace) does not even exist in the logic of our government, that is just being said to further numb the Armenian society’s vigilance, the real denials to cover it with a false veil, the real disasters one and a half years ago, the atrocities that have not been overcome until today," the MP said. According to Mkrtchyan, Azerbaijan presents ultimatums to the Armenian statehood with the five points proposed for the peace agreement. "It is a disgrace that this government says that there is nothing unacceptable (with the peace agreement). That means they agree with it and say that Artsakh may be part of Azerbaijan. It’s normal for them that Armenia will have transportation hubs over which the Armenian side will not have any control mechanisms," she explained. According to Mkrtchyan, there should be a government that combines the Armenian interests, but today there are no such people in the ranks of the government — the change of government should lead to the combination of the interests of the Armenian statehood, the restoration of sovereignty. And the MP told us the potential of the Diaspora is important in the process of presenting Armenian interests. "As you can see, Nikol has not only isolated the real political opposition of Armenia from these processes, but also the Armenian Diaspora — he has isolated the Diaspora structures. He wants to show that here the government is himself, the decision-maker is him,” Mkrtchyan concluded. The Armenian Report also tried to get clarifications on the proposed peace agenda from the deputies of the ruling faction, but the representatives of the government refused to answer our questions.
