16.03.2012

John Prescott, Co-Rapporteur of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) (United Kingdom, socialist) and Axel Fisher (Germany, European People's Party) announced that the parliamentary elections due in May "will be decisive in terms of strenghthening democracy in Armenia".
As the PACE press service told "Armenpress", in their reports made as a result of their visit to Armenia, January 16-17 they urged participants of the elections not to shatter the public trust.
The Co-Rapporteurs repeated their appeal to conduct due investigation of the ten victims' case of March 1, 2008. They mentioned that only criminal investigation was carried out. "That's not what was expected and what would enable the families of the victims speak and the authorities explain the results of the investigation. President Serzh Sargsyan was open to suggestions and ordered to work on concepts of public hearings", their statement reads.
