Armenian NA envisages 150 million cubic meters of water leakage from Sevan

The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia continues its extraordinary session.

“Licensing” and “state registration of rights to the property” draft laws on making amendments and additions passed on the second reading by 101 votes in favor, 1 against and 2 abstain.

Besides, the draft laws on making amendments and additions in "Patent Payments" and "Traffic safety security” were also passed by the second reading.

The issue to make amendments in “Lake Sevan” law and three international treaties were too included in the agenda of the National Assembly session.

The Government applies to the NA for the permission to commission the leakage of 150 million cubic meters water, Armenpress reports.

State Water Management Committee chairman Andranik Andreasyan stated that similar issue was on the agenda in 2008 as well. “This year is scarce, Azat and Aparan major reservoirs of Sevan-Hrazdan system face deficit. In the words of the interlocutor the only source of deficit covering is Lake Sevan.

“By our forecast we are in need of additional 150 million cubic meters water to meet the demand of 40 thousand hectare irrigation area ” Andreasyan noted.

The amendments on “ Lake Sevan ” stipulate to determine 320 million cubic meters of water withdrawal for irrigation purposes.
