RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan Receives the Member of the French Senate, Mayor of Bourg-les-Valence Bernard Piras

On October 18 the RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan received Bernard Piras, Member of the French Senate, Mayor of Bourg-les-Valence.

Welcoming the Senator the RA NA President noted that they knew Mr Piras in Armenia as a sincere friend of the Armenian people, who during his political activity as Senator, Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group and Mayor of Bourg-les-Valence, had big contribution to the reinforcement of the Armenian-French friendship. “You have always been next to our compatriots of France and Armenia in the most important issues and have a big contribution to the process of passing the law on recognition of Genocide by France ,” Hovik Abrahamyan noted. Highly appreciating the current level of the Armenian-French political dialogue, the Head of the parliament highlighted the more development and reinforcement of inter-parliamentary relations, in this matter reserving an important role to the friendship groups. In terms of the rapprochement of bilateral ties the RA NA President emphasized the cooperation between the local self-government bodies and deemed an important step taken in this direction the existing warm relationship and cooperation between the cities of Bourg-les-Valence and Talin.
Expressing his gratitude for the reception the Senator Piras also highlighted the strengthening and deepening of relationship between France and Armenia and noted that the goal of his visit was to strengthen the inter-parliamentary relations, as well as cooperation between Bourg-les-Valence and Talin.

In the course of the meeting the sides also touched upon the Safarov case. Strictly condemning the Hungarian-Azerbaijani deal and noting that international community adequately responded to that fact, RA NA President expressed conviction that we should give an adequate response also to that phenomenon and take concrete steps in order it did not become a precedent. The NA President has noted that the Armenian xenophobia is campaigned at state level, which should be a sufficient basis for the international community to understand that in no case and dimension Artsakh could be part of a country, which heroizes murderer Safarovs. Bernard Piras said that as a member of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate he had been assigned to prepare a report on the actions of Hungary . The French Senator has entitled the report: “ Hungary has a deficit of freedom, human rights and European values”. He has also sent a letter to the Hungarian Ambassador to France .
During the meeting other issues were also discussed.
