Seminar on the Theme “The Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation in the European Union”

On February 7 seminar on the theme “The Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation in the European Union” was held in the National Assembly, where the NA deputies, representatives of the NA Staff, NGOs and experts took part.

The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan highlighted the inter-parliamentary cooperation, the activity of the Friendship Groups and the inter-parliamentary committees. To his assessment, in the 21st century the close friendly relations are also important together with the rise of the role of the democratic institutes.

The Head of the Political, Economic, Press and Information of the EU Delegation to RA Dirk Lorents talked about the role of the parliaments in the EU integration process.

Kaya Kravchuk, the Advisor on EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation has noted that the goal of the seminar is to present the efficiency of the inter-parliamentary cooperation, as well as make proposals how to strengthen the existing relations between the national parliaments of the RA National Assembly and the EU member countries. Kaya Kravchuk has also touched upon the regional cooperation and the developing relations of the national parliaments with the European Union. She has also highlighted the role of the COSAC – the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union, which greatly promoted the rise of the level of the information and exchange of information between the national parliaments. Kaya Kravchuk has documented that during recent 20-30 years the role of the national parliaments has essentially grown in the European Union.

At the end of the seminar the speakers also answered the participants’ questions.
