18.10.2014

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan attended the opening of Armagroforum at the Yerevan Expo Center in Yerevan Research Institute of Mathematical Machines.

Welcoming and congratulating the audience on the Farmer’s Day on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Armenia and himself, Hovik Abrahamyan noted that being of strategic importance to the country’s overall development, the modernization of agriculture is one of the Government Program’s main directions.

Throughout history, the village and the land have played a key role in our nation’s life and continue to play a significant role in ensuring the well-being of our society. While modern technology is of primary importance to economy, yet the love for the land, human warmth and caring are the key to providing high-quality agricultural products,” the Prime Minister said.

As the head of government said, today more than ever, favorable conditions are available for the development of agriculture in Armenia.

Hovik Abrahamyan noted that Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union will open up new horizons for increased exports of agricultural commodities. In this context, the Prime Minister pointed to the need for speedy modernization of agricultural market infrastructure in order to provide quality products in accordance with international standards.

Well aware of all the problems and challenges faced by our farmers, realizing the role of competitive agriculture in the progress of the country, the Government will take consistent steps to cope with the existing welfare-associated bottlenecks and modernize the agricultural sector. In recent years, agriculture has been at the forefront of our national economy. The social infrastructure development process is getting new momentum in rural areas, with major facilities being built in the countryside. I am confident that the standard of living will improve gradually. The Government’s approach is that strategic policy reforms in the agricultural sector should provide favorable conditions for the development of every business entity,” Hovik Abrahamyan said.

The Prime Minister said agriculture has a significant influence on the development of the entire economy. Mindful of this, the Government will continue to support the farming sector, with the agricultural policy to be aimed at ensuring the necessary conditions.

Hovik Abrahamyan assured that his government will stand by the farmers, ready to prop up any initiative aimed at SME development.

On the Farmer’s Day and for valuable contribution to agriculture, the Prime Minister’s commemorative medals and diplomas were awarded to a group of agricultural workers.

Hovik Abrahamyan walked along the stands observing the products in display, getting acquainted with the visiting companies’ ongoing activities and upcoming programs.

Armprodexpo-2014 is attended by 67 companies, which have brought over a wide range of agricultural commodities.
