02.10.2015

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan attended today an official reception held on the Unity Day of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Prime Minister delivered a congratulatory speech in which he pointed out. “On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Armenia and myself, I cordially congratulate you, Mr. Ambassador, the Embassy staff and, through you, the friendly people and the authorities of Germany on German Unity Day.

October 3 is a truly significant day for the Federal Republic of Germany. The longstanding dream of millions of Germans - reunification of the two parts of Germany-- became a reality this day 25 years ago in 1990. It was an event of European and global significance, since the collapse of the Berlin Wall heralded the end of an era of totalitarian regimes in Eastern Europe, laying the foundation for the development of a free and democratic world, which had its impact on global processes.

The united Germany is an important player in the international arena. It has been instrumental in addressing global challenges, making a significant contribution to regional security and stability.

The consistent development of relations with Germany is among Armenia’s foreign policy priorities. We attach great importance to the expansion and deepening of cooperation with Germany in both bilateral and multilateral formats, including within the framework of the Eastern Partnership. Our centuries-old historical-cultural ties and the Armenian community in Germany may provide a favorable basis for the development of Armenian-German bilateral relations.

For over two decades of successful cooperation, a high-level political dialogue has been nurtured between our two countries. Close links have been established between Armenia’s National Assembly and the German Bundestag. We boast strong ties of cooperation in cultural, scientific, economic and other fields.

Germany is an important trade partner of Armenia - the third largest in the European Union, There are more than eighty entities with German capital operating in Armenia.

The Armenian-German intergovernmental commission on financial and technical issues is playing a key role in the management of joint projects. I want to emphasize the close cooperation between our two countries’ armed forces in peacekeeping missions in Afghanistan. The inventory of Armenian-German ties is quite extensive, and I am confident that our bilateral relations have great potential for development.

I am hopeful that through joint efforts, we will be able not only to maintain, but also to build on the positive dynamics of development, enhancing exchanges to a qualitatively new level for the benefit of our two countries.

In conclusion, I would like to once again congratulate all of you on this memorable occasion, conveying my best wishes of sustained progress for your nation, as well as peace and prosperity - for the friendly people of Germany.”
