During the meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic the Speaker of the RA National Assembly Galust Sahakyan discussed issues regarding the development of the Armenian-Serbian parliamentary cooperation. The meeting took place within the framework of the 133rd Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in Geneva (Switzerland).

The Head of the RA Parliament has underlined that he highlights the activation of the political dialogue, the debates over the issues of mutual interest, which will greatly promote the atmosphere of strengthening mutual trust and close cooperation. Talking about multilateral cooperation, Galust Sahakyan particularly noted: “I consider necessary to adopt favourable, more balanced position towards each other in the international arena. Armenia has always met the Serbian side’s requests and expects adequate approach from the Serbian side, especially in the important political issues crucial for Armenia.” Afterwards Galust Sahakyan presented to his Serbian counterpart the developments going on over the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the ferocities being perpetrated by the Azerbaijani side, and documented that the Republic of Armenia is for the peaceful solution of the problems. The Head of the RA Parliament once again thanked his Serbian colleague for the participation of the President of Serbia in the events of the Armenian Genocide Centennial and invited Maja Gojkovic to the Republic of Armenia.

Thanking for the meeting the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia expressed her gratitude for the effective work with the Armenian side in the international structures, especially in PACE. “The Armenian-Serbian joint effective work in PACE should serve as an example in the other international platforms for the Armenian-Serbian cooperation,” Mrs Gojkovic added.

The Head of the Serbian Parliament accepted the RA NA President’s invitation and assured that in the near future she should pay an official visit to the Republic of Armenia. At the end of the meeting Maja Gojkovic underlined: “I express my deepest gratitude to the Republic of Armenia for supporting us in the issue of the identity of Serbia and in numerous, very important problems for us.”
